The latest hardware sales data has been released in Japan, revealing that the Nintendo Switch sold 62,000 units last week in the country. By comparison, the Wii U sold 127,000 units in its second week on sale in Japan. Keep in mind, the Wii U launched during the holiday season. Although Christmas is not as big of a deal in Japan as in a lot of the Western world, many in Japan still buy consoles throughout the holiday season which advantages the Wii U.

Up to its second week in 2012, the Wii U had sold roughly 435,000 units in Japan, while the Switch has sold about 391,000 units so far in the country.
